Mount Kenya National Park

Mount Kenya, standing at 5,199 meters, holds the distinction of being the second highest peak in Africa. The mountain is adorned with 12 remnant glaciers, all of which are rapidly receding, and it features four secondary peaks situated at the head of U-shaped glacial valleys.

Day 1 : Nairobi - Judmier Camp
Depart Nairobi early morning at 8 am and drive to Nanyuki town to arrive in time for lunch, the drive will take about 4 hours. Proceed to Mount Kenya National Park sirimon gate, 1 hr, 2440m. After formalities begin the hike from the Sirimon park gate; follow the track as it winds uphill though the forest which consequently becomes heath land after about 3 hrs. About 3½ hours from the gate the track veers right to Judmier Camp, 3300m where we will have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Judmier Camp - Shipton Camp
After breakfast, follow the track uphill, forking left at a junction. We will walk for one hour from Old Moses Camp, the track crosses Ontulili River. At this point we go right as we contour through the Moorland and consequently cross the Liki North and hike uphill to Mackinders Valley. At this point there are panoramic views up the valley towards the main peaks. Dinner and overnight at Shipton Camp, 4200m.
Day 3: Shipton Camp [ Acclimatization Day ]
Our day is easy and spent in order to acclimatize with guided hikes. Trek to Kami Hut and down to Hauseberg Lakes (Hauseberg Tarn and Nanyuki Tarn). Walk back to Shipton for an early dinner and overnight in readiness for the next day’s summit attempt.
Day 4: Shipton Camp - Point Lenana - Mount Meru Bandas
Wake up early in the morning for some tea and biscuits. Depart the camp at 3am up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff that clears to a visible part towards lower Hall Tarns. The journey lasts about 3 hours to arrive Point Lenana (6km from Shipton Camp) at sun rise. Additionally the trek to Lenana Peak at 4985m takes about 3hrs or so. Enjoy a photographic session and sightseeing from the summit. Not long after the African sunrise, descend down to Mintos hut (6km), 2hrs, for breakfast. Proceed with the adventure hike for 20km, 4-5hrs further down to Mount Meru Bandas, 2950m (Mt Kenya Bandas). Dinner and overnight at Mount Kenya Bandas.
Day 5: Chogoria Bandas - Chogoria Town - Nairobi
After breakfast, you will walk down and trek for 2hrs, 15km to forest clearance. The remaining part distance of approximately 16km is by 4x4WD vehicle. Catch a 4×4 transfer vehicle to Chogoria Village where you will connect with your transfer vehicle back to Nairobi where the climb to Mount Kenya ends.
